Fredericksburg: Full of Fresh Air and Family Attractions!

Named after Prince Frederick of Prussia, Fredericksburg is still referred to fondly as “Fritztown” by some of the area’s German old-timers. This region also holds title as the Peach Capital of Texas, with over 150 acres of peach orchards. In addition to growing the sweet fruit, Fredericksburg’s climate, type of soil and elevation is perfect for producing brightly colored wildflower seeds at the Wildseed Farms, the largest family-owned wildflower seed farm in the United States. Don’t miss the annual Wildflower Celebration held here!

Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy Enchanted Rock, a National Natural Landmark located approximately 15 miles north of Fredericksburg, TX. This massive pink granite dome spans 640 acres and soars 425 feet above ground level, making it an ideal attraction for rock-climbers and hikers. The Old Tunnel State Park, not far from the tasty Alamos Springs Café, is a great place to escape the hot sunshine and tour below ground. However, anyone scared of bats should steer clear of the lower level of this park, where several million bats emerge regularly in a swirling swoop! This area of Texas Hill Country is also filled with year-round hunting and lush golf courses that offer extraordinary scenery, such as the Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course.

Fredericksburg draws many history buffs, as the entire district boasts over 80 significant historic attractions and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Notable sites include the “Texas Whitehouse”, which was President LBJ’s country residence, and located close to Eye Country is the National Museum of the Pacific War, which chronicles the detailed events of WWII in the Pacific.

Whether you’re interested in serious shopping, gazing at store window displays or picking up a few souvenirs from Fredericksburg, there are plenty of boutiques, galleries and shops to keep you busy. Over 150 stores feature a range of items, including memorabilia, men’s and women’s Texas fashion, antiques and art, wine and gourmet delicacies and trendy home décor. Take a stroll down Main Street to sample all that the region has to offer.
